Wood rot happens, don’t beat yourself up about it.

Weather is a significant factor in the creation of wood rot, but it can also happen as a natural progression of a home as it ages. Most often wood rot appears in areas of high moisture in a home or where there is a lack of sunlight to dry out the wood: basements, water pipes, attics, as well as fences and decking.

The good news is, there are ways to repair a lot of areas of wood rot without the need or expense of replacing the entire structure affected.

When repairing wood rot for customers, our team will first evaluate the area to determine how bad the wood rot is (a typical rule of thumb is if the rot is less than 50% of the item, it can be repaired instead of replaced) and discover the source for the rot so that issue can be illuminated to prevent further issues in the future.

Next, we’ll remove the wood rot and any weakened wood around the area. Following that removal, we apply a wood hardener and wood filler, made from a special epoxy that performs well and takes paint well, to fill the space left empty from the rotted wood.

Once the area is firm and dry, the team will sand, prime and paint the space, to match the rest of the project area.

The discovery of wood rot in and around your home can cause alarm, as often homeowners worry it can signal major repair bills and potential structural damage. We’re here to help you determine what’s going on, and what needs to be done to repair the area. Often, we can keep your costs low by not requiring a full replacement.
